Smaller interruptions are much more common and can affect your business operations as much as a large scale interruption can. However, it is these smaller scale events that often go unnoticed.

Below is a list of events that have occured in the Chicagoland area. Each of these events resulted in an appreciable business outage for local companies.

 
233 S. Wacker Drive, Sears Tower
Feb 20, 2006
This Monday morning power outage affected 20 floors after two cable connectors stopped working properly. A ComEd crew had been called to the building the day prior to fix a faulty transformer.
 
35 East Wacker, Leo Burnett Building

An early morning fire created a scare in this Class A property. The Chicago Fire Department's quick response prevented any business interuption.
 
350 Cermak Equinix facility Power Failure

A Chicago power substation fire caused a power outage. A short circuit in the backup generator system failed causing customer equipment to go down.

311 South Wacker - Water main break floods spaces

A water main for the fire safety systems failed, affecting floors 18 through 27. Three of the floors required moving people while major work replacing drywall was completed.

  150 LBS limestone slabs fall from building

  The Hinsdale IL Bell Office Fire

40,000 subscribers lose phone service for nearly a week. Cellular service also went out since this CO is where wireless infrastructure connected to the PSTN. The emission of toxic fumes required the evacuation of several blocks around the facility.
